DRAFT BROCHURE GOREE 2000
A CIVIL SOCIETY SUMMIT
FOR PANAFRICAN RENAISSANCE
Foreword
The present draft brochure, as it stands today, January 2000, is intended
to circulate among the main organizers of Goree 2000. Parts of it, such
as Chapter 1, have been circulating for over one year. Other parts are
more recent and others are appearing here for the first time.
Please feel free to make any contribution you deem necessary
to this brochure. We intend to complete and publish the brochure as soon
as possible.
Although the Goree 2000 project was conceived long before
the 35th ordinary Summit of the OAU held in Algiers, Algeria, in July
1999 and the extraordinary Summit of the OAU held in Sirte, Libya, in
September 1999, it has now become part of the agenda of both the Algiers
Declaration on the proclamation of the year 2000 as the Year of peace
in Africa, and the Sirte Declaration on the creation of an African Union
before the end of the year 2001.
As you will see in Chapter 4, Goree 2000 is an ongoing renaissance
process which has already started and will continue after the end of the
family reunion of August 25 - 31st, 2000. Please join us in this process
to restore, promote, and put to practice the fundamental values which
will change the course of African history in the 21st century. Join us
now.
